It is the birthday of Kaizer Chiefs founder Dr Kaizer Motaung. So, let's celebrate one of Africa's renowned sports administrators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/kaizer-chiefs-5-reasons-for-their-poor-start\/\">Kaizer Chiefs<\/a> is one of the greatest football clubs in South Africa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They have accomplished plenty in their history, but how do you talk about the Amakhosi without mentioning their founder, Dr Motaung?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung was born on October 16 1944 and celebrates his 79th birthday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He started playing football for Orlando Pirates at 16 and has gone on to do splendid things during his playing and administrative career.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In this piece, we look at some of the contributions of Dr Motaung.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The contributions to Kaizer Chiefs<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung founded Kaizer Chiefs<\/span><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_144817\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-144817\" style=\"width: 696px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img class=\"size-large wp-image-144817\" src=\"https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-1024x511.jpg\" alt=\"kaizer chiefs salute their founder\" width=\"696\" height=\"347\" srcset=\"https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-1024x511.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-768x383.jpg 768w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-20x10.jpg 20w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-80x40.jpg 80w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-550x274.jpg 550w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-60x30.jpg 60w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-150x75.jpg 150w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-696x347.jpg 696w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-1068x532.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-1920x957.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-842x420.jpg 842w, https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/ICONSPORT_74010413-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" title=\"\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-144817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Icon sport<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung played for Atlanta Chiefs in the NASL, and when he returned to South Africa, he founded the club and named it after himself and his former club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/goalballlive.com\/kaizer-chiefs-5-reasons-for-their-poor-start\/\">Kaizer Chiefs<\/a> because he could not broker peace between the Orlando Pirates and a few players penalised for playing in a charity game without the club's permission.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Under Dr Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs have won several trophies, including the African Cup Winners Cup 2001.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Motaung played a crucial role in the establishment of the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) in 1996 with Orlando Pirates owner Irvin Khoza.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Despite forming the PSL, he had to wait till the 2003.04 season for Kaizer Chiefs to win its first league title.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung turned Kaizer Chiefs into the most marketable football club and is one of the wealthiest teams in South Africa.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He led the Amakhosi to become the most decorated club in South African football with 76 major trophies, including 12 league titles, four of which came during the PSL era.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung contributed immensely to the on-pitch success of Kaizer Chiefs, and it helped the Amakhosi attract millions of new fans over the years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Kaizer Chiefs are the most supported football team in sub-Saharan Africa, with an estimated support base of over 16 million supporters.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Happy Birthday to Dr Kaizer Motaung! May you live longer to see your team win a star! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pg872hmwA8\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/pg872hmwA8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Cellular\u00ae (@Cellular_jnr) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Cellular_jnr\/status\/1713789627377614888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 16, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dr Motaung came up with the club\u2019s slogan of \u2018Love & Peace\u2019 &#8211; an expression of non-aggression in response to a growing wave of violence among fans of other clubs, especially when their teams were losing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He helped Kaizer Chiefs to a fourth-place finish in South Africa\u2019s first multiracial league in 1978.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They were the highest placed traditionally black side, behind originally white clubs, Lusitano, Wits University and Arcadia Shepherds.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He brought to Kaizer Chiefs their first white player, Lucky Stylianou, a defensive midfielder.
